This page is a list of the resources I used to pass the CompTIA Network+ (N10-008) Exam. Read [[2024-04-29-how-i-passed-the-network-plus]] first to learn about my exam journey and tips for passing. --- ## Exam Objectives [Exam Objectives (comptia.org)](https://www.comptia.org/training/resources/exam-objectives) CompTIA publishes their exam objectives for free. This document denotes the areas of IT the exam will cover and breaks them down into sections. --- ## Training Courses ### Professor Messer [Professor Messer's CompTIA N10-008 Network+ Training Course - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLG49S3nxzAnlCJiCrOYuRYb6cne864a7G) When searching for courses, this is the top recommended course I found. The course is streamlined to match the CompTIA Exam Objectives, provides all the information needed to pass the exam, and proved invaluable to my studies. The best part is it's free! While not necessary, Professor Messer has additional study material available such as a PDF version of the course notes, an audio only version of the course (great for additional study while commuting to work), and offline copies of the videos available at [Professor Messer’s N10-008 Network+ Success Bundle](https://www.professormesser.com/n10-008-success-bundle/). ### CBT Nuggets [CBT Nuggets CompTIA Network+ (N10-008)](https://www.cbtnuggets.com/it-training/comptia/network-plus) While studying, my employer granted access to a CBT Nuggets subscription. Keith Barker's upbeat attitude and high-energy presentation of the material kept me engaged throughout the course. I also greatly preferred his method of subnet calculations using the "Finger Game" over Professor Messer's "Magic Number" method. ### Mike Meyers [CompTIA Network+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide (8th Edition)](https://www.amazon.com/CompTIA-Network-Certification-N10-008-Comptia/dp/1264269056/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2GC0I9F2WMR3Z&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.mnsiDUD_MdWgRMLEkXpuF-bVg_EaKatI3AO30qaOl5o1chKskDcE7f2K_Y5iUSC5stQeBfD0AwuV780OqHuRrm1P2NG8ckp5qKQWw2pNYJglEmT3nztYmeds_6a4dtTlj_gHpP9ifftPhgaqRhm7x4E1Wu3rr7aHqF5gpMJJTuUhZV9xMoMHyWh4EzePzFBPtejMMgopMGFUHLwPLpyTOeamuLaT-SGDBCJsAFcEXE0.-Ch4tn2WMVbSKXNwXLKlTb-rCUhjne0Mu09kl2l70Vc&dib_tag=se&keywords=network%2B&qid=1714133648&sprefix=network%2B%2Caps%2C139&sr=8-1) Mike has the number one book for Network+ studies, so if physical media is preferred, this is the one to get. [Mike Meyers Network+ Udemy course](https://www.udemy.com/course/comptia-networkplus-certification) Mike also has a Udemy course that follows the same structure as the book. --- ## Notes Watching the course videos is useful for exposure to the material, but won't push it into long-term memory. Notes provide a way to quickly review the material that's been presented. ### CompTIA [CompTIA N10-008 Network+ Study Guide](https://www.comptia.org/training/books/network-n10-008-study-guide) CompTIA has their own study guide available. This guide was included with the voucher retake bundle I purchased. Using CompTIA's own study guide ensures the verbiage of terms matches how those terms will appear on the exam. ### Professor Messer As mentioned above, the [Professor Messer’s N10-008 Network+ Success Bundle](https://www.professormesser.com/n10-008-success-bundle/) includes a PDF version of the course notes and diagrams that were used throughout the videos. ### Water We Making [[CBT Nuggets CompTIA Network+ (N10-008)]] My notes, taken while studying the CBT Nuggets course, are available freely on this site. --- ## Spaced Repetition System (SRS) Just like how only viewing the course videos doesn't push the material into long term memory, neither does only writing notes. The material must be reviewed. Using flashcards requires active recall of the material. A Spaced Repetition System (SRS) improves the efficiency of studying by decreasing the number of times correctly answer cards are presented and increasing the number of times incorrectly answered cards are presented. [Anki](https://apps.ankiweb.net/) is a popular SRS app. To learn how to create an Anki deck, see my blog post: [[2023-06-20-how-to-create-an-anki-deck]] ![CompTIA Network+ (N10-008) Anki Deck](CompTIA%20Network+%20(N10-008).apkg) This is the Anki deck I created for my Network+ studies, based on Professor Messer's course notes. --- ## Practice Tests I believe a Space Repetition System (SRS) is the best way to learn exam material, but an SRS deck doesn't replicate an exam environment. Several of the questions on the CompTIA exam require picking the "best" answer. In the real-world, if a problem is ambiguous a technician is able to ask follow-up questions, but this isn't an option when taking the exam. Practice tests also provide a way to get use to the time restrictions and question styles of a testing environment. ### Jason Dion [Jason Dion's CompTIA Network+ (N10-008) Practice Exams](https://www.udemy.com/course/comptia-network-008-exams) Jason Dion's Udemy "course" includes six, 90-minute, 90 question practice exams. The answers to each question are explained at the end of each practice exam. There were times the practice tests revealed questions that hadn't been covered during my course studies. The Udemy course description denotes, "achieving a 90% or higher on these exams will ensure the readiness needed to pass the exam." I scored an average of 78% across 5 exams. I took each exam once, then created a "cheat sheet" style study guide on the areas where I needed additional attention placed. ### ExamTopics [ExamTopics (N10-008)](https://www.examtopics.com/exams/comptia/n10-008/view/1/) CompTIA doesn't post their questions and answers to the exam. This site posts real Network+ exam questions that people remember from their exams. There isn't a clear community consensus regarding the best answer for several of the questions, thereby proving the ambiguity of CompTIA's phrasing, but the forum like nature of each question allows people to collaborate and provide reasoning for their answers.
